Do These Shoes Go With This Dress?

It’s our seventeenth wedding anniversary and so we were seeking a nice place for dinner.
As we puttered through Trebes (on the Canal du Midi), we entered a lock and saw Le Moulin restaurant. Then we spotted shade and a safe place to tie up.

Dress code
I rarely wear dresses, I never wear high-heels and absolutely never wear make-up. Call me lazy or natural – I don’t care!
For this special night, I wore a dress and heels. The shoes were given to me via a friend of a friend - they no longer wanted them. They looked brand new, and they weren’t so ridiculously high that I couldn’t walk. The pathway to the restaurant was short too – what could go wrong?

Heady heights
Trying to adjust to my new height and worrisome dress with no straps! I tottered up the road arm in arm with my best buddy for seventeen years.
A delightful evening ensued. Noel and I are never short of conversation, quite the opposite. We sat, giggled, reminisced, laughed, grinned and ate the most fabulous meal.

Walk this way
‘Let’s take a stroll into town,’ suggests Noel.
‘Okay,’ I say confidently. Wearing the shoes for the hundred-metre walk so far had been a complete success, my dress hadn’t wriggled down to reveal my boobs and a litre of wine (shared!) had bolstered my confidence.
As we tottered along the road my left foot kept sliding out from the side of my shoe.
‘I can’t walk in these, I don’t know what’s going on,’ I said as I stumbled and tittered. As we reached town, I looked down and saw that my shoes had disintegrated.

‘Ahh, I see the problem,’ laughed Noel, as I held up my now tatty shoes.

Barefoot and fancy free
‘That’s okay, I can go barefooted.’ As we walked through the small town people stared, but they just thought, ‘another tipsy woman,’ and smiled.
Then we reached the gravel path.
‘Here, take my shoes.’ said Noel. I looked down as Noel stepped out of his paint-splattered work sandals.
I peered around furtively as a young couple were catching us up. ‘Quick quick,’ I giggled, ‘they’ll see us.’
Like a pair of silly drunks, we clung on to each other as I slipped my small feet into Noel’s enormous shoes.

Noel, ‘awched’ and ‘ouched’ his way alongside me;  we picked milestones to swap, ‘I’ll think I’ll make it to the next moored boat...’
For the rest of the way home we regularly swapped shoes, we picked wild flowers from the side of the road and we both realised how soft our feet had become. During our sailing days they were a lot tougher.
We passed the restaurant again and heads turned as I let out a squawk of laughter as we swapped shoes once again.
We made it back to the boat, intact I thought, until I looked down and noticed my dress had slide half-way down my chest!
I’m so lucky to have found Noel. He woke up the next day singing, and saying, “I am truly blessed.”.....
....... and, I am too.
Do you have any funny clothes sharing stories?

Love it!

Ha haa!

Andrew is very patient with me borrowing his socks. I also stole his daughters snow boots and Andrew's warm jersey and even his toothbrush over the weekend in the mountains as I had forgotten to pack all of the above!

I have had a few fashion malfunctions. Probably the worst one was when I was in the supermarket, queuing for the till, when I felt something funny in my trouser leg. I looked down and realised that my knickers - presumably from when I wore them last, were coming out of the bottom of the trouser leg and were dragging on the ground!!

Tres embarrassing...

hehehehe - that is great Viki. We had such a laugh - the knickers in your trousers wins though - so funny - mind you I could tell you about the time I tucked my skirt in my knickers and walked several floors in a corporate office like that..... blushing just thinking about it!

haha that is hysterical!!!! Now that's true love sharing one pair of shoes. I can 'feel' the ouches walking on the gravel.....
By the way - you look great in a dress - as for the heeled shoes - NEVER wear sling backs - they are doomed to make you walk strange, flip off and break! :D Enjoyed the story.
