Join us on the French Canals

You will be aboard Rouge Corsair, our 18.5 metre Dutch barge.

Picture
Together, over the following weeks, we’ll be travelling from Aramon (France) to Diksmuide (Belgium).
We'll share our journey with you via photos and events. I hope you enjoy the ride.

Picture
This is France - we start at the bottom and need to get to the top (Belgium) - the red line is our planned route.
Day One
We left Aramon a day earlier than planned. A beautiful summer’s day with a hint of autumn accompanied us as the day slowly grew warm and bright - with hardly a cloud in the sky.

Picture
Aramon presented us with a marvellous farewell. An enjoyable village.
Although we were pushing current the tailwind gave us a good ride and we averaged nine kilometres an hour.
Picture
Watching the workers drive home - feeling blessed. The flag is a Women on Barges members' flag - look us up on FB it is a remarkably supportive and fun group.
Picture
The yellow diamonds denote which span we must pass under.
Picture
We meet enormous commercial barges - the bow wave of this loaded barge caused some movement memorable to being at sea. They take priority in the locks.
Picture
Waiting to enter the lock.
Picture
Exiting the lock - the seagulls lined up on the lamposts - all claiming their spot ("this is mine, it's been in my family for generations....")
PictureWhere we anchored at 19:30, not much help I know. The red is our route, and we anchored just off the main channel.

Today we left Aramon at 11:50 at marker PK 2054.

We travelled 54 kilometres along the Rhone to PK200

Our evening view on anchor.

They lit up the castle ruin just for us.
Picture
We made 54 kilometres and are now at PK200. We are the large red circle at the bottom.
We enjoyed a beautiful evening swinging on anchor.

Thanks to Eureaweb Ltd for allowing us to photograph their great electronic charts of France and Belgium.
